Posted by: gsmaster 1 year, 1 month agoMe as a person I am not inclined to any religion in particular but that does not mean that I am closed to wisdom. Wisdom comes from everywhere the point is to make the best use of it. As it is said "Wisdom is the proper use of knowledge".

Jesus was against oppression and overthrowing authoritarian rule. Unlike the Old Testament in which everyone lived under the law and had to make sacrificial offerings to God to make amends for their misdeeds Jesus spoke about being set free from bondage (spiritual, emotional, and financial)by living under the spirit (not under law). In this piece, 'success' is equated with being 'rich,' and on this point I think Jesus would disagree. While there are very nice people who are wealthy and poor people who are vile, wealth is not a true measure of success. It is impossible to serve both God and Mammon. Easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to go to heaven. While there is virtue in diligence, honesty and kindness, if the ulterior motive for being a good person is to be wealthy then I think it's safe to say the purpose for being good in the first place' is lost.

We are saved not by deeds but by grace. We should honor and respect all that we have, but more importantly, we should treat one another as we would treat ourselves. Indeed, I believe the world would be a lot better one without interest charged on money. In a world of true abundance (which I believe is within our ability to achieve) there is no lack. But, in order to get there we would all need to subsume our own selfish, self interest for the good of all.

If you really want to delve in sagacious wisdom, I'd suggest you read Proverbs in it's entirety. You won't be disappointed, and you'll be pleased that you did. It'll save you a lot of possible wrong turns in our road to the obstacle course we call life.

PSALMS 15: A psalm by David. My GOD, who may sojourn in your Tent? Why may dwell upon your holy mountain? One who walks in perfect innocence, and does what is right, and speaks the truth from his heart; who has no slander on his tongue, who has done his fellow no evil, nor cast disgrace upon his close one; in whose eyes a contemptible person is repulsive, but who honor those who fear The LORD; who can swear to his detriment without retracting; who lends not his money on interest; nor takes a bribe against the innocent. The doer of these will not falter.

As an atheist, I can still appreciate your views - for me the Bible contains much practical wisdom which I basically live by - to that I add my own personal experience as a human being and try to remain true to myself - even Shakespeare helps with life issues - his words, "neither a borrower nor a lender be" uttered by Polonius to Hamlet is sound advice.
