In eight months time, I made $4.00; and that was after I read the five to six pages of instructions, made sure I had targeted ads, eye-appealing ones positioned in all the rightplaces, excellent content that advertisers appreciated. So why didn't I make any money? Because my website was an educational one designed for the purpose of teaching young children how to use the internet creatively and wisely. If you don't have the visitors to your site, you can't make money. And then of course there is the ad words program. Basically you can give away your money to get Google to pay people to hit your pages, but are they really visiting because they want to learn?

You are right, traffic is key. There may be problems with Google Adsense and Google Adwords, but in terms of ease of use and quality they are two of the best programs on the internet.
