How to Build a Holodeck »

We're going to have to get creative. We need to recreate the experience while staying grounded in reality. To do this, we'll have to cherry pick from currently existing and upcoming tech.

Claytronics... very interesting.
I visited MIT a year or so ago. They have a room which I think they call The Smart Room. You talk to it, and it does stuff - diagrams and animations appear on the walls, the computer follows your every movement, web pages appear on the walls, etc.
If I recall, they were talking about developing a 3d fax machine using claytronics.
