Carrying one of these with you presents a professional and business like image. If it' s a portfolio, just make sure it' s slim and it doesn' t contain tons of personal paperwork in it that makes your portfolio look fat and or disorganized. In the case of a briefcase, don' t bring something that will be oversized, or even contain your laptop in it. There' s no need for anything like that unless for some reason the interviewer asked you to bring your laptop ahead of time.
